WebJul 27, 2015 · Jul 12, 2015. #1. Recently I bought 2 Davidson seating depth checkers to help sort my bullets. I started using 2 of the gauges to measure from the ogive to the last part of the bullet touched by the rifling. My problem is that every bullet measures different. Sometimes as much as .01, making it impossible to sort them. WebJan 20, 2024 · Jump is the relationship of a bullet's ogive, measured with a comparator, to the lands, also/hopefully measured with the same comparator. And, I do know that ogives can vary but knowing that a bullet will shoot well at a known jump, or a number that's reasonably close, is helpful is starting load development.

It's not for measuring lengths. The BGC provides comparative qualification of ogive radius. With this, it qualifies bullet nose datums from which other measurements are based. This would be the first measure taken with bullets.
WebMar 12, 2016 · From which to have equal bullets all 3 aspects have to be equal, to get perfect matching bullets, to the seater diameter. Then from that point ahead to the tip (my F to G reference) can be equalized by meplate trimming and/or pointing, if need be. Typically with a good Lot of bullets I see the two can fallow each other linearly quite well.
